I am pretty much obsessed with the HGTV show Love it or List it, so that is where I got the title for this post-
Which actually has nothing to do with the show----
Instead, I'm talking about my bathroom....
Should I "love" the wallpaper or "list" the wallpaper?
Current Bathroom:
When we first looked at our house, I thought I would be taking down the wallpaper in the bathroom AS SOON AS we moved in.

Current Bathroom:
When we first looked at our house, I thought I would be taking down the wallpaper in the bathroom AS SOON AS we moved in.
After changing the window curtain, shower curtain and adding a few touches, I decided to leave the paper because it had such amazing character, and funny enough, it gave you something to read when you were in there. It is REALLY unique and is always a conversation piece when people tour the house for the first time.
But it has always bothered me that corners were peeling up, that there's mold and mildew in some areas, and it just looks.. OLD.
Yes, I realize this is gross. Yes, I have tried to clean it.
So I think..."List it!"
Get that moldy, gross paper out of here!

But then when I see images like this in Country Living I think....

Love it!
Newsprint wallpaper is still IN!
I would read funny stuff like this while brushing my teeth....

and think, you can't find this anymore....
Love it!
And wallpaper is so popular now....

Love it!
But as I continue to "freshen up" other areas of the house, the bathroom has started to bug me.
Several months ago I picked out a few paint colors and peeled back a corner of the wallpaper and saw the horror that was underneath and decided that on second thought, the wallpaper was just fine!
"Love it!"
Taking it down will be a HUGE undertaking and WHO KNOWS what it will look like underneath?! 75 year old glue?! Chunks of plaster coming down with it?! Glue/Paper/Nastiness staying up on the walls?! (I hate textured walls you know).......EKKK!!!!
Such a big project.
But the other day I decided to look through my paint colors to see what color I might want to paint it, You know, just if I decided that it needed to be painted....
When Evan saw me he goes, "Oh no, what are you doing? What are you going to paint now?" I told him I was throwing around the idea of the bathroom???
And to my surprise he goes, "Yeah, I think you should take it down. It looks really dated." (I was shocked that he said that), but then thought, Yes. Maybe our vintage wallpaper has had it's time.
"List it".
What are your thoughts?
I would love to hear what you think!!!

bye bye.
ReplyDeleteHaha... I love your comment! I am thinking the same thing. I need to start researching how to take down wallpaper!
ReplyDeleteoh yeah good luck with that. i took down wallpaper in the kitchen ahhhhhh! it was so awful i painted over the wall paper in the bathroom.
ReplyDeletetake your time. once it's all down and walls are ready for paint just take it as it is. sometimes distressed walls give character.
